For prospective students: Pursuing a graduate degree in fisheries science can be an exciting and demanding step forward in your career. Ideally, prospective students will demonstrate enthusiasm, a background in fisheries, ecology, or a related field, an understanding of the research process and basic statistics, the ability to think critically, and be a good team member. In particular, much of our research is quanitative and computer-based - skills in modeling, statistics, and computer programming are often necessary. If you think this describes you, please look over our research projects and some of our recent publications. Then, please feel free to contact me by email with a description of your background and research interests. Fisheries graduate students at CBL typically matriculate through the Fisheries Science Area of Specialization in the Marine Estuarine and Environmental Science program (MEES). Positions Management Strategy Evaluation Post Doc Description: One-year post doc position (with potenential for renewal for a second year) to conduct research related to evaluation of strategies for determining acceptable biological catch (ABCs) for management of Mid-Atlantic federally-managed fisheries. Duties will involve development of a simulation study to test the performance of ABC determination techniques and testing their implementation for specific Mid-Atlantic stocks. Qualifications: Ph.D. in quantitative fisheries or related field; desired qualifications include experience in stock assessment and simulation modeling, knowledge of population dynamics and fisheries management, good communication and interpersonal skills, and a strong work ethic. Experience with AD Model Builder or other computer programming would be an asset. Salary: $45-50k depending on qualifications and excellent benefits package. Closing Date: Open until filled.
